Welcome to My Safe Space: A Personal Introduction

My Journey of Healing

Hello and welcome to my space. I’m Jess, the lead therapist, CEO, and founder of Innate Counseling and Therapeutic Center. I’m honored that you’ve found your way here, and I want to take a moment to introduce myself and share a bit about my journey—because it’s one that’s deeply personal, ongoing, and filled with both challenges and triumphs.

I’m a Black, bisexual woman. That’s a lot to carry, but it’s also a lot to celebrate. I’m still exploring my sexuality and learning more about who I am every day, and I’m proud to be open about it. I’ve also struggled with my own mental health—something I’ve learned to embrace with compassion rather than shame. As a therapist, I know firsthand how hard it can be to navigate mental health challenges, especially when those struggles are compounded by cultural, social, and historical factors.

I am passionate about breaking the stigma surrounding mental health, especially within Black and Brown communities. For too long, black people have been denied the opportunity to heal, both by society’s misconceptions and by generational trauma. Mental health care has often been seen as something “for white people,” but I’m here to change that narrative. I want to create a space where healing is not only possible but celebrated—where it’s safe to confront pain, explore identity, and work toward inner peace, no matter your background.

At Innate Counseling, I aim to offer not just therapy but a sanctuary for those who feel marginalized or unheard. Whether you’re struggling with your own mental health, navigating identity, or working through a difficult chapter in life, I’m here to walk with you. The work we do together is rooted in transparency, authenticity, and a deep understanding that healing is a process, not a destination.

This blog will be a place where I can share my thoughts, my experiences, and my journey toward greater self-awareness. It’s a place where I’ll open up about my own struggles, so that you can see that no one is ever alone in their healing process. Whether I’m talking about mental health advocacy, sharing tools and tips to cope with life’s challenges, or reflecting on my own discoveries along the way, this blog will be a space for honest conversation and shared growth.

I invite you to join me on this ride—where we can explore, heal, and break down the walls that have kept us from being our fullest, most authentic selves. You’ll hear from me about the importance of self-care, the power of therapy, and how we can all work together to break generational cycles of silence and pain. Above all, I want to create a community where we can learn from one another, find support, and celebrate progress, no matter how small.

Thank you for being here. I’m excited to share this journey with you, and I hope you find something that resonates with you as we move forward. This is a place for healing, learning, and growing—together.

Let’s break the stigma, step into our power, and create a new story for ourselves.

With love and courage,

Jessica Hornage
